Does staying consistent with content feel like a constant struggle? I want to share with you 5 tips that are going to make creating content for social media EASY – as it should be.

So many online entrepreneurs that I talk to who are using content marketing for their businesses struggle with how to find content ideas, how to stay consistent with their content, and how to create really great and engaging online content. But the truth is it doesn’t have to be so hard!

So let me make this whole process super easy and actually enjoyable for you. Because, let’s face it, you didn’t start a purpose-driven online business just to struggle through it!

TIP 1: FULLY LEAN INTO THE MEDIUM YOU ENJOY

The main mediums for creating content for social media are: video, long-form text, audio, and graphics. So when you’re choosing your primary medium, the most important consideration is “what comes naturally to you?”

You may have to experiment with different mediums in the beginning to figure out what works best for you. But really think about what you actually ENJOY doing. And also what medium of content you can most easily stay consistent with.

Remember that the primary purpose of content creation is to get your ideas out of your head and out into the world. So think about how they are the most likely to flow naturally. Once you figure this out, fully lean into it.

TIP 2: FOCUS IN ON ONE OR TWO PLATFORMS

If you ask 5 different online business experts what the best social media strategy is, you will likely get 5 very different answers covering a host of different platforms. That can get really overwhelming real quick.

Especially in the beginning, and especially if you’re a solopreneur, it is so important to manage your energy and focus. So choose one or two platforms to really focus on to create your content.

The two aspects you need to account for are Rich Content – your long form content pieces – and your Social Content – the content that helps you build relationships with your audience. Both are equally important for growing your brand and business. Depending on the platforms you choose, you may be able to leverage the same platform for both types of content.

The main things to consider when you choose your platform are:

What platforms work the best for your primary medium

What platforms are you the most comfortable with

And most importantly: Where is your ideal client hanging out online?

TIP 3: CREATE SOCIAL MEDIA CONTENT TO SERVE YOUR AUDIENCE

Fully committing to coming from a place of service is one of the easiest ways to make content creation effortless. As you build relationships with your audience, ask them what content they want to see from you. Keep the focus on delivering what your ideal client needs from you.

In order to be of service, your own clarity is key. Get clear on your purpose, the vision for what you’re trying to create through your business, and who you’re trying to serve through your content and business. Whenever you’re creating content for social media, focus on these aspects.

TIP 4: BRAINSTORM TOPICS WHEN YOU’RE INSPIRED

We all have off days, and it’s not easy to be in the creative energy all of the time. So whenever you are actually feeling inspired, spend some time brainstorming content ideas. Keep a running list of content ideas for your rich content so that you can always stay consistent.

Now, after you’ve had one of those brainstorming sessions, It can be really tempting to create the best content pieces right away. This is great! Good ideas need to be acted upon quickly. However, another top tip is to hold on to 1-2 of your favorite content ideas for those days when you just aren’t feeling it. If you have an idea for an evergreen (always relevant) piece of content that you can get excited about even when you’re not in the most creative mood, consider holding on to it for when you need a backup.

TIP 5: REPURPOSE YOUR CONTENT

The biggest key to avoiding the overwhelm of content creation is to repurpose your content. You do not need to come up with brand new content for every social media platform every day or every week.

Each piece of rich content that you create in your main medium for your core platform can be turned into additional content.

For example, every blog post you see on this site is repurposed from my YouTube or IGTV videos. I also take parts of these blogs and turn them into captions on Instagram and Facebook.

There are so many ways that you can repurpose content, so get creative.

BONUS TIP FOR SOCIAL MEDIA CONTENT:

If you do expand into additional social media platforms other than your main two, make them only supplementary to grow your visibility. Post your re-purposed content onto these other platforms, but always drive traffic to your rich content platform or social platform. This way you leverage all the resources that are available to you without splitting your focus and energy. Use it as a way to get your brand in front of new audiences but don’t spread yourself thin.

Share this article with a friend who could also use these tips to keep up with their content game. Join me on Instagram for more daily tips and to see in action how I do some of my content re-purposing.

<img decoding="async" src="https://lifewithovi.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/create_social_media_content_easily-683x1024.png" alt="5 tips for creating social media content with ease, how to make content creation fun and enjoyable, how to create consistent content, how to create engaging content.
Many of us have faced the quarter-life crisis, and with it comes a host of existential questions. Things like how you can find fulfillment in your life, how to be purposeful, and how to live in alignment. So let me share with you my best tips on how to find your purpose and passion in life so that you can be happier and more fulfilled.

There are three main things that you need to think about when you’re trying to find your purpose and passion:

What is the vision you have for your ideal life?

What are the types of tasks that you enjoy doing?

What are your talents and skills?

GET SPECIFIC ABOUT THE LIFE YOU WANT

This is going to be the first step for you to be able to find your purpose and passion because the goal is to ultimately create the ideal life you want and that makes you happy. So the more detailed you can get about what you truly want, the easier it will be for you to get in alignment with your purpose.

While you do this ideal life vision exercise, make sure you let go of all your limitations. So many of us are too afraid to even allow ourselves the freedom to just think about what we truly want, much less take action on it. So be fearless with your imagination.

Where do you want to live and with whom? Does your lifestyle involve travel? What does a typical work day look like for you? What do you do for fun? The only right answer here is whatever makes YOU happy.

Write down this vision in as much detail as you can. Make either a physical vision board, or a digital vision board on Pinterest. And get really clear about what you’re working towards on a very holistic level.

BRAINSTORM THINGS YOU ENJOY DOING

Think about the different types of tasks that you really love doing. But don’t stop there. Also consider what it is about those tasks that make them enjoyable to you.

Also think about what topics you enjoy learning about. Do you catch yourself going down YouTube or Wikipedia rabbit holes about similar subjects often? The kind of things that you are naturally curious about are a good indication of your passions.

Another thing to think about here is what are those topics that you get really fired up about? What can you talk about in detail for hours? What are those things that you have very strong opinions on?

CONSIDER YOUR SKILLS

No discussion on how to find your purpose & passion would be complete without taking into consideration the skills and talent you already have.

Is there a particular skill that you have honed over the years? Are there certain themes that keep coming up in your life? For example, for me it was teaching – throughout my whole life I have been polishing my skills in teaching and it has always been something that I loved to do. Who and what I have taught has changed a lot over the years, but teaching has been a common theme.

It all clicked into place when I finally figured out that what I want to do is coach women to create the life and business they want on their own terms.

So what are those things for you that you have always just naturally done, that you have developed a skill for, that others always come to you for? What are lessons you’ve learned in life that you know would help others?. What are adversities and struggles you’ve overcome that you can help people with?

So really, your passion and purpose is not something that needs to be “found”. It’s already there, you already know it, you just have to do the work to uncover it. While the above tips are a good place to start, it also requires taking action and trying things out to know what feels the most aligned.

I am an avid list maker. I have a list for everything imaginable from my daily to-dos to my ultimate wardrobe wish-list. (Which would make more sense if I actually wore anything other than leggings and t-shirts on a regular basis!) But what I want to share with you today are the 3 lists to make in your journal that can help you be happier day-to-day. Use these ideas when you’re stuck in a rut.

Being productive is about how YOU feel. Every day you want to feel like you accomplished what you set out to do. It’s not about doing MORE but just getting things done to move you forward towards your goals.

Even with the best planning systems, we all have those days when we just are not able to get a lot done. Maybe you’re just feeling a bit lazy, in a bad mood, or have a wrench thrown into your plans by the outside world. Whatever the situation is, you still want feel like your whole day wasn’t a waste. You want to be happy with yourself at the end of the day.

LIST #1: DAILY NON-NEGOTIABLE TASKS

This is where having a daily non-negotiable tasks list comes in handy. This is a list of a few simple tasks that, at a minimum if you do these things and nothing else all day, you feel like you got something done.

My list includes:

Making my bed.

Even if I don’t manage to get it done first thing in the morning, I have to make my bed or it drives me nuts!

My night time skin care routine.

Taking the time to pamper my skin in the evening is an absolute must for me.

Learning something for my personal development or business.

Every day I make sure to learn something that’s going to help me to create the life and business I want for myself.

Show up on Instagram story for my audience.

Even if I don’t get to work on anything else for my business all day, I make sure I’m sharing valuable content on insta-story. (If you’re not following me on Instagram yet, make sure you join me over there @lifewithovi!)

LIST #2: THINGS TO DO FOR AN INSTANT HAPPINESS BOOST

Another list to make in your journal are things that you can do at any time to immediately feel a little happier. I got the inspiration for this tip from this article on Gretchen Rubin’s blog.

Having done this, I now have a great tool that I can refer back to whenever I’m feeling down or stuck in a rut. Making this list is also something you can do in those moments when you’re not feeling your best. Brainstorming things that make you happy is sure to get you in a better mood.

Often when we’re in a bad mood we don’t know what to do to break out of it. Do one, or a few, things on your happiness boosters list to immediately feel more energized.

Some ideas from my own list are:

Facetime a friend.

Go sit outside and get some fresh air.

Watch an episode (or, ahem, a whole season) of F.R.I.E.N.D.S.

Spend some quality time with my husband.

Jam out to some 90’s music.

Brainstorm what I’m grateful for.

LIST #3: GRATITUDE LIST

Reflecting on things that are already going well in your life is a great way to feel happier.

There’s two ways that you can do this. The first is to have a gratitude list in your journal that you can reflect back on. Whenever you need a reminder of all the good things you have, you can simply look over this list. Another way to do this is to make a new gratitude list when you need to cheer yourself up.

But in my opinion, a combination of the two is even better. Have an ongoing gratitude list in your journal. And every time you need feel the need to reflect, look back over it AND add a few more things on to it.

Use the above tips for boosting your happiness day to day. But beyond that, also focus on discovering and living according to your passion and purpose. This is what will help you create the life that you love and ensure your long term happiness.

I love myself a good spa day and my at-home pamper routines, but that’s not what I want to talk to you about today. There is so much more to self care than just those things. So here are 10 practical tips on how to fit more sustainable daily self care practices into your schedule.

Whether you’re a corporate chika, an entrepreneurial boss babe, or a stay-at-home momma taking care of your little ones, these tips will work for you.

First of all, what even is self care? To me, it’s a mindset and a way of life. It’s you making a CONSCIOUS DECISION to make yourself a priority in your life, and taking ACTION every single day to protect and improve your physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.

TIP #1: WAKE UP FOR YOURSELF, NOT YOUR OBLIGATIONS

Instead of starting your day by rolling out of bed already dreading your day and getting right into the rat-race, give yourself a little alone time in the morning. You don’t have to wake up at 5 AM to do this if that’s not your thing! Trust me, I’m NOT a morning person either.

But if you can wake up just 15 minutes earlier than you’re used to, it will make all the difference. Imagine being able to actually sit down and enjoy your first cup of coffee, or going outside and getting some fresh air, before you have to rush off to work or start running after your kids. Setting yourself up for a daily self care practice begins with how you start your day.

TIP #2: MAKE THE GOOD CHOICES THE EASY CHOICES

Make it super easy for yourself to do the things that make you feel good!

If you want to eat healthy, prep your meals ahead of time. Have healthy food on hand, pre-portioned out, and ready to grab when you’re in a rush. This will make it so much easier to reach for what you actually want to eat rather than grabbing something that ends up making you feel bad just out of convenience.

If you’re trying to be consistent with your skincare, have your products within easy reach, not out of sight in a cupboard somewhere, because let’s face it, you’re not going to be going through the trouble of pulling it all out and putting it back every day when you’re in a rush.

Same with your makeup, if wearing makeup makes you feel confident. Have some easy go-to looks and your essential products picked out and stored together in a convenient place so that it’s easy to quickly “put your face on” in the morning.

They key to a daily self care practice is making it a part of your routine.

TIP #3: HAVE A MORNING OR NIGHTTIME SKIN CARE ROUTINE

If you don’t have time to dedicate to a full-on skin care routine both in the morning and evening, that’s okay! Choosing to do at least one of them as an intentional daily self care ritual will give you that pampered and relaxed feeling. So even if you’re not able to get regular facials or spa treatments, you’re still incorporating that feeling into your every day routine.

The point here is not to use a lot of different products, or use expensive products. What you use is completely up to you. But this is really about having that intentional time with yourself. You’re going to spend some time washing your face and doing your personal hygiene practices anyway. So use that time to reconnect with yourself and relax.

TIP #4: SET ASIDE NON-NEGOTIABLE TIME JUST FOR YOU

Schedule at least one “appointment” with yourself during the week just for you to do something you love. If you can have multiple times like this, even better!

Whatever it is that you love to do – paint, dance, watch movies – it doesn’t matter what it is. Schedule in your hobbies when you plan your week, and treat it like any other non-negotiable appointment that you have to show up for.

So if someone asks you to do something that is not a priority for you, just like you wouldn’t skip work for it, don’t skip your appointment with yourself either.

TIP #5: TAKE INTENTIONAL BREAKS THROUGHOUT YOUR DAY

Schedule in regular breaks for yourself so that you are not working to the point of burnout. You will also be much more productive when you give your mind and body a chance to re-energize every once in awhile. So don’t wait until you NEED a break to take one. Instead make fun and relaxation just as much of a priority as any other task.

TIP #6: SET BOUNDARIES AT WORK AND IN LIFE

Do you find yourself spreading yourself thin, staying late at work, saying yes to everyone’s requests and demands of you? You need to know and recognize your own limits, and communicate them clearly to those around you.

If you’re always saying “yes” when you really mean “no”, not only are you going to feel the effects of overwhelm and exhaustion on your own health, but over time you are also going to build resentment.

If you feel guilty when you want to say NO, reframe your mindset. Recognize that sticking to your boundaries is actually doing yourself and everyone around you a favor. Because this way you will have more energy and be able to show up better and happier in all areas of life. While it may take effort in the beginning, if it’s part of your daily self care practice, it will become more natural with time.

TIP #7: LET GO OF GUILT & SELF DOUBT

If you’re used to being a people-pleaser and always putting others first, when you start setting boundaries, you may feel guilty.

Letting go of all that guilt and pressure on yourself is going to feel like such a relief. So check your self-talk. You deserve to be happy, fulfilled, replenished, etc. All the things that you need for your mental health.

Save this as a reminder to yourself and share it for others who need to hear this!

Or maybe you feel guilty for NOT setting the boundaries you need for yourself. You might feel like you’re letting yourself down. But remember that If you make one bad choice, or have a bad day, it doesn’t make you a bad person. It’s part of the human experience.

Do you need a reminder that letting go is a part of your daily self care practice? Save the below images (and share them on pinterest or instagram to remind others!)

TIP #8: PRIORITIZE THINGS THAT GIVE YOU JOY

So many of us have so many stories and resistance towards things that JUST make us happy. The truth is we all want to have fun, buy nice things, and enjoy life. But when it comes to actually doing those things, have you felt like you have to justify it or earn it in some way?

Part of your daily self care practice should be recognizing and unlearning these harmful thought patterns that are keeping you unhappy. You deserve happiness. Your happiness is a priority. So make it a priority to do and have things that give you joy, just because you want to. That’s all the reason you need.

If you’ve been waiting for someone to give you permission, then here you go!

TIP #9: GET CLEAR ON YOUR PURPOSE & GOALS

Beyond just knowing the things that can boost your mood in the moment, having a clear purpose and goals will ensure your long term happiness. It’s really an act of daily self care to be working towards your own goals and the life you want to create on your own terms.

So take some time to review your goals, vision, and your life’s purpose, so that you are working towards something meaningful.

TIP #10: PROTECT YOUR PEACE ONLINE

We spend so much time online and what we see on a regular basis has a real effect on our mental health. Make a regular habit of detoxifying your feed. Unfollow anyone or any pages that constantly affect you negatively. Be discerning about what you allow into your space – even online!

Use the above tips as acts of daily self care to live a happier life overall. These are all things you can incorporate into your lifestyle with minimal effort, so even the busiest of us can feel at more peace in our lives.

Do you have a monthly planning routine? In this video I’m sharing the 5 steps that I go through whenever I’m planning for a new month. Doing this review helps me to finish off each month strong, reconnect with my goals, and set the intentions for what I want to achieve in the new month.

For a full guide on how to implement these steps in your own planning routine, download the free printable guide.

STEP 1: ACKNOWLEDGE THE WINS

The best way to stay motivated is to give yourself props for the things you’ve already achieved. The more results you see, the more you will want to keep going. So, list the accomplishments of the month. Once you get it out of your head and onto paper, it will feel more REAL, and get you motivated to set more goals for the upcoming month.

STEP 2: MAP OUT THE BIG THINGS

Is there an event you have to attend this month? A project to work on? A big purchase to make? Important birthdays or holidays coming up?

If it’s outside of your normal routine or budget, it should go on your calendar so that you have a big picture view of what’s coming up and what you have to plan for. And yes, I mentioned the budget too, because you should make sure you plan for your money as well as your time and goals.

STEP 3: REVIEW YOUR PRIORITIES

I don’t have goals for the entire year. Why? Because it’s simply too much. If you can handle planning for a whole year’s worth of goals, do you boo, but I know that that’s not for me.

But if you’re like me, what I recommend having instead is a set of priorities. And priorities change!! That’s just a fact of life. So review them every month and make sure they are still aligned because you don’t want to be making plans for things that no longer matter to you.

STEP 4: ALLOCATE RESOURCES

What I mean by resources are those things that you have a limited amount of – your time, money, and your energy. Once you know what your priorities are, and the big things that are coming up, you can start to map out your whole month. You need to get realistic about what you have on your plate, what must be done vs what can wait, and budget out not only your money, but your time and energy as well so that you don’t burn out.

This is also going to be the foundation you’re going to use to plan out your weeks. You can see exactly how I do my weekly planning in this post.

STEP 5: DO A BRAIN DUMP

Make a list for all the random tasks and ideas that you’re holding on to so that you can process through them. As you do this you may also remember things that are in fact priorities, which you may have missed in the previous steps.

Some productivity gurus say to start by doing the brain dump. However, I recommend that you do it last so that you don’t get overwhelmed by all the things that you “have to do” and end up not really focusing on getting clear about your priorities. The ultimate goal is to create the life that you love – so your priorities need to come first!

<a href="https://lifewithovi.com/free-monthly-review-checklist/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="Make sure you download the FREE Monthly Review Checklist & Worksheets here so that you can start implementing this routine for yourself.
These are the two top tools that I have found to make your to do list more efficient.

How do you break up the multi-step projects into manageable tasks and then how do you schedule your tasks to stay productive? In this video I’m sharing how I do this using Asana and Google Calendar.

TIME BLOCKING (AKA CALENDAR BLOCKING)

This is a very popular technique among some of the most successful people in the world to manage their time. Instead of working off a simple to-do list, you take all the tasks that you have to do and assign them to specific blocks of time.

The tool that I use to do is Google Calendar. That’s my preferred tool because of the flexibility to access my calendar from anywhere on any device.

See exactly how I time block my week in this post.

PROJECT PLANNING

A project is anything that requires multiple different steps or sub-tasks to be completed. You can’t plan to complete a project by treating it as a single task. By breaking up the project into it’s different phases and then into the individual tasks, you will be then able to block out time to get each of the tasks done.

So you need a system to break down all your projects, set timelines and deadlines for when each task needs to be completed, so that you can ultimately complete the entire project piece by piece, without being overwhelmed.

I use the app Asana to do this but you can also use other project planning apps such as Trello, or even do the same thing on a paper planner.

CHECKLISTS FOR ROUTINES

For the things that you want to make sure you do on any kind of regular interval whether that’s daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, or yearly – create checklists for yourself so that you don’t have to think about it and try to remember all the steps you have to go through each time.

In this video I show you how to plan your week for success and how to get more done in a week by time blocking on my preferred tool – Google calendar.

I also provide tips on how to time block effectively and schedule your day for maximum productivity no matter how you prefer to do your planning. This same time blocking technique can be used on other calendar applications as well as on paper planners such as the Erin Condren Hourly.

SETTING UP YOUR WEEK:

Start by mapping out the hours that you’re awake.

Schedule in your morning & nighttime routines and other self care necessities such as meal times.

Schedule in any time taken up by a job or school also accounting for time spent commuting.

Add any other regular recurring appointments or commitments.

Once you have an accurate picture of your available time, start scheduling in time to work towards your goals.

Make sure to add in free time to rest and relax every day.

Schedule in power hours for your chores.

Block off some time for “catch-up” in case any task doesn’t get completed in it’s allotted time.

Use any times that you are doing mindless tasks (going for a walk, commuting, chores) to fit in some learning via podcasts or audio books.

TIP 1: HOW DO I PICK MY CATEGORIES?

Experiment with how specific or general you want your task categories to be, and how many categories is optimal for you to have clarity but still not overly complicated.

TIP 2: DO I HAVE TO USE GOOGLE CALENDAR?

Choose your time blocking platform based on what works best for your life, whether that is a paper planner, Google Calendar, iCal, or any other calendar app that you prefer.

Consider where you do most of your work, how portable you need your calendar to be, and the different devices you may need to access your schedule on throughout a typical day.

TIP 3: WHAT IF I HAVEN’T GIVEN MYSELF ENOUGH TIME?

Make a commitment to yourself to stay on task and do what you actually have scheduled to do.

Be realistic about the amount of time you are setting aside for each task. It’s always better to give yourself a little more time than you need and finish early, than abandon your plan altogether because you constantly keep running short of time for your tasks.

Don’t put things on your schedule that are not important to you and therefore you’re likely to just keep pushing it off. If you know you’re probably not going to end up doing something anyway because you really don’t want to, and it’s not a priority – just say no. Have the difficult conversations if you need to.

TIP 4: THIS SEEMS TOO RIGID – I NEED MORE FLOW!

Understand that complete flow 100% of the time is not practical, because outside of the time that you need to be creative, you have other aspects of life that still need to get done, which work better when you have SOME structure around it.

If you need to get into the flow and have the freedom to create, but you still want to manage your other responsibilities in a productive way, I suggest that you have days dedicated to “flow” and other days that are more scheduled.

So still use this time blocking technique, but block out your creative days as just “free flow” for the entire day. Having more structure on the other days will ensure that you still get everything else like your chores and admin work done in a timely manner, which actually allows you to have more peace of mind and not feel any guilt on the days that you want to spend just being creative.

You can also do this within the same day where you block off several hours at a time for “flow” time, and structure the rest of your day with more concrete plans.

Ever have those days when you feel like you’ve been doing a million things, but by the end of the day you still feel so unaccomplished and like you got nothing done? If that sounds familiar, you need to refocus your energy to actually be productive, not busy.

In this video I explain why you don’t need to be busy to be productive. And I’m sharing my top 5 tips so that you can get more done in less time and feel more accomplished.

TIP 1: STOP TRYING TO MULTITASK

Multitasking does not work. You split your focus by trying to work on multiple things at once or switch between different tasks. You end up feeling more tired because you’re wasting so much energy just trying to refocus every time you switch tasks. So you’re much better off giving all your attention to one thing at a time.

By multitasking you feel like you’ve been busy all day, but like you didn’t actually achieve anything. This is because you’re not focusing on any one thing enough to make real progress.

TIP 2: GET RID OF DISTRACTIONS

Distractions can come in many shapes such as phone notifications, emails, and chatty coworkers, They all have the same effect on your productivity as multitasking. You lose focus and waste energy trying to get back into the flow of what you were doing.

Set clear boundaries at work and at home. Turn off all your notifications, and set aside specific times throughout the day when you will check emails, messages, and social media.

TIP 3: HAVE A PLAN FOR YOUR DAY

Going into each day with a plan for what you need to get done will make all the difference in keeping you focused on the things that actually matter. Productivity is about getting the right things done so that you feel accomplished. So knowing what exactly you need to accomplish in a day is key to being able to be productive, not busy.

The ways I recommend to do this is by time blocking your day or having a list of top 3 tasks that you must get done within the day.

TIP 4: ALWAYS HAVE A WAY TO CAPTURE IDEAS

Throughout the day you will suddenly remember things you have to do. Or you will think of a great idea that you want to pursue. Ensure that you don’t abandon the task you’re working on by always having a notepad handy to jot down these thoughts as they come up.

Also make sure that you’re setting aside time to review those notes periodically!

TIP 5: TAKE BREAKS

Another important thing you should be doing to increase your productivity is taking regular breaks throughout the day. Constantly working without adequate rest leads to feeling tired, overwhelmed, and having low energy.

You will also be less likely to be tempted by distractions during times when you’re trying to focus on a task by having breaks built into your day. You know you have time set aside to engage in those fun activities.

Have you ever thought, “I need to change my life,” but you didn’t know where to start? Then you’re in the right place. These are the same steps that I have used to start creating the life that I love for myself.

I used to wonder what to do with my life all the time when I was feeling stuck in a rut. So in this video I walk you through how to find your purpose in life. And then also how to make an action plan and set goals to design the life you want.

STEP 1: FIGURE OUT WHAT YOU ACTUALLY WANT

You know that you want to make a change in your life and that you’re not happy where you’re at. But in order to start creating the life you love, you need to get clear on exactly what the life you want looks like.

To figure it out, do this mindset exercise: Imagine you had NO limitations or restrictions. Money, time, family/societal pressure – none of these factors exist. If that were the case then what would you do? Where do you live? What does your day look like? Don’t worry about being realistic. Just let your imagination run wild, and think about all the little details.

STEP 2: ASSESS YOUR CURRENT SITUATION

What are all the different commitments, people, organizations, etc that are taking up your time right now? At this stage it doesn’t matter whether it’s something you want to do, or something you feel like you have to do. If it’s a current part of your life, just get it on the list.

STEP 3: ELIMINATE WHAT YOU CAN

A lot of our time is spent doing things that don’t serve our own personal goals, just to meet others’ expectations. Or worse yet, what we ASSUME is what others expect of us.

Now that you know exactly what is taking up your time, take a critical look at your list and see what you can start saying no to. Consider the real reason why you are doing the things that are not in alignment with your vision. Then determine whether it’s something that can be delegated to someone else or something that doesn’t need to be done altogether. On the other hand, it may be something that you actually do have to continue taking care of. In that case, see if there’s a way to systematize those tasks to get them done efficiently.

STEP 4: MAKE A PLAN

Now it’s time to break down your vision into more attainable goals. What can you do this year to start moving your life in the direction you want to go? You may have to start with very small steps, and it might take time to fully create that life that you want, but believe that with a good action plan and consistent action, anything is possible.

Once you know what you can do this year, break it down further into quarterly goals and monthly targets. The key is to take it one small step at a time and just keep moving forward.

STEP 5: MAKE TIME TO EXECUTE THE PLAN

Finally, when you’re planning your week, make sure that you are keeping your action plan top of mind. Prioritize scheduling in the tasks that are going to move you forward towards your goals over other less important tasks.
